Empowerment by Social Injustice & Inclusivity
Our History
The project aimed to empower Transgender individuals in Kolkata, Cooch Behar, New Alipurduar and South 24 Pgs through support group formation, leadership and capacity-building workshops and networking. It successfully created support groups comprising participants, hosted capacity-building initiatives for Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), and developed a comprehensive resource directory for the Transgender community.
OUR OBJECTIVE
Providing Legal Aid & Counselling Services to Distressed Transgender people:
➤ Establish counselling centres to provide mental health support, emotional support and legal guidance to transgender people facing distress.
➤ Collaborate with legal professionals to offer pro bono legal aid services to those in need.
Empowering Transgender people to Raise Their Voice Against Abuse & Negligence:
➤ Conduct sensitization programme, workshops focusing on assertiveness, communication skills, gender & equality for Transgender people.
Ensuring Proper Implementation of the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act; 2019 in the Target Area:
➤ Support for the effective implementation of existing laws through awareness programme and community engagement.
➤ Collaborate with local authorities to address gaps in the implementation process.
➤ Equip community members, especially transgender groups, with knowledge about their legal rights and access to justice.
Key Contributions
Empowerment Through Information
- Developed user-friendly directories containing vital Information on counseling, legal aid, and other support services for Transgender individuals.
- Disseminated resources to promote rights-based empowerment.
Prevention and Awareness
- Promoted non-violent community norms and educated stakeholders on unlearning violent behaviours.
- Strengthened networks between target groups and stakeholders for sustainable support systems.
Networking with Stakeholders
- Collaborated with institutions like the Directorate of Social Welfare, West Bengal Transgender Development Board, DLSA, NGOs, academia, and media.
- Leveraged stakeholder expertise to create targeted rights-based interventions.
Awareness & Training
